WHEN A STARVING 2-YEAR-OLD BOY WAS LEFT FOR DEAD IN THE AFRICAN COUNTRY OF NIGERIA, THIS IS WHAT HE LOOKED LIKE:
The young boy, who could not even be identified with a name, was abandoned by his own parents after they suspected he was a witch.
But in a miraculous recovery that’s granted him the name “Hope”, the young boy was quickly taken into the care of Danish rescue worker Anja Ringgren Loven, who was stationed in Africa at the time.
Almost a year to the date of the above photo, Anja released these startling before and after photos that reveal Hope’s progress:
Anja posted this emotional message along with the photos:
On the 30th of January 2016 I went on a rescue mission with David Emmanuel Umem, Nsidibe Orok and our Nigerian team.
A rescue mission that went viral, and today it’s exactly one year ago the world came to know a young little boy called Hope
This week Hope will start school.
Discovered roaming Nigerian streets emaciated, alone, and even with worms attached to his body, Hope was on the verge of death and required the most sensitive nurturing.
Upon finding him, Anja offered him some water from her bottle, and then wrapped him up in a blanket and immediately took him a nearby hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Hope received multiple blood transfusions to restore red blood cells.
Despite Anja’s incredible act of kindness, she was awe-struck when the boy’s story quickly went viral and she received over $1 million in donations from people all over the world.
Unfortunately, according to Ms Loven, Hope is not the only Nigerian child harmed by the superstitious beliefs of his parents.
“Thousands of childre are being accused of being witches,” said Loven, “and we’ve both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children.”
However, given the amount of financial support she’s received, Anja will be able to give “Hope the very best treatment, now also build a doctor clinic on the new land and save many more children out of torture.”
