Keep Avocados Fresh for 6 Months!
Avocado

Avocados not only have fantastic taste, but they are also rich in a variety of minerals and vitamins that can help you feel full longer and improve your overall health.

In fact, avocados contain almost 20 essential minerals and vitamins that our body needs to stay healthy. This includes potassium, which is a very important mineral for our blood pressure and nerve function. In addition to this, they are also full of folate, which is needed for cell repair – especially during pregnancy, and lutein, a carotenoid that helps preserve eyesight.

Avocados are also rich in B vitamins, which are well-known for their abilities to fight off infections. They are also a good source of other vitamins, including E and C.

If you want to maintain a healthy weight, you should eat avocados more regularly because they are both low in sugar and full of fiber which will help you feel full longer.

Preserving Avocados

Avocados have only one downside – they eventually go bad. For that reason, most of us find it hard to keep them green by the time we need to use them.

According to many avocado fans, the best way to keep your avocado fresh is by cutting it in half and then storing it in a shallow pool of water. But, the problem with this way of storing is that your avocado will only last for few days.

So, How to Store Avocados?

If you want to keep your avocados fresh longer than few days, you should put it in a freezer. In order to get the best possible results, you should make a purée or cut up your avocado before you store it.

  1. First of all, you need to wash your avocado thoroughly
  2. After that, cut it in half and then peel off the skin.
  3. If you want to make a purée, mash the avocado into a food processor with a bit lemon juice or white vinegar, then add the mixture to a freezer bag and store it in the freezer.
  4. Another option is to cut the avocado in half and wrap each half separately in plastic wrap, and then put them in a freezer bag and freeze. Don’ forget to label and date the bag.
  5. Frozen avocado can be stored for up to 5-6 months. In order to thaw it, you should leave it in the fridge for about 12-24 hours before use, or place it at room temperature for a couple of hours. You can also thaw it quickly by putting it in a bowl of warm water.

Note that frozen avocado usually loses some of its firmness. Certain changes of texture and consistency are inevitable when you free the water crystals inside of fruit and then thaw it out. But still, frozen avocado is great for smoothies, salads, sandwiches, spreads, dressing, and even ice pops.
